The Canadian High Arctic Research Station

As one of lead foremans contracted by Oakwood Roofing, Jacob Osborne led a crew of highly skilled journeymen carpenters in the 2015 & 2016 summer construction of the The Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) located in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

The Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) will provide a year-round presence and complement the network of research facilities across Canada’s North.

The construction of the station began on the plateau site in summer 2014. Jacob and his crew played an integral role in installing roughly 45,000 sq feet of vapour barrier, insulation, and standing seam roof to the main research building. The buildings unique architectural design included multiple roof levels, curved walls, and the building’s main feature, the sharing knowledge centre. Jacob’s crew also lent a hand in the completion of the exterior fascia and siding of the building.

CHARS will be opened in time for Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
